Since I began exploring the creative possibilities of working with glass in 1998, I have studied glass fusing and design techniques at the Bullseye Glass Co. studio in Portland and at Monterey Peninsula College. My jewelry, table and wall art pieces have been exhibited in juried shows in Carmel and Monterey, California, winning several awards.
Focusing on the Element tradition brings an amosphere of intention to the creative process. Before I begin the work, there is a time of contemplation of the Element's attributes; this often leads to inspiration of design and use of color. While working, I may listen to music that is evocative of the particular Element's qualities or just open the window to the sound of the birds and the wind. When a piece is completed, it is held for a moment with the intention that it evoke the same gratitude, joy and sense of Elemental balance that were present in its creation.
Bringing together disparate parts to form a cohesive whole is a source of joy in the studio, in relationships, and in life. Facilitating and witnessing this transformation is the energy of the creative process. The focus on the Five Elements in my glasswork is intended to resonate with the aspects of being that we all share and serve as a reminder of the integral balance that we all seek. I consider myself very fortunate to have the opportunity to do this work.
